The Garden City Household Hazardous Waste Facility, located at 206 Isabel Ave., opened Tuesday, Dec. 20.

The Household Hazardous Waste Facility is the first city-owned HHW facility in the state. Construction has been funded by the City of Garden City, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and Waste Connections.

The facility’s initial hours of operation are every Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 7 p.m., as well as the first Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to noon.

Waste from Garden City residents will be accepted free of charge. Local businesses can also bring approved wastes to the facility, but will be subject to disposal fees that will help offset the operation costs.
