Post Date:05/23/2017 5:00 PM
Widening of Kansas Avenue between Main Street and Third Street has been underway since March. Lee Construction, the project contractor, plans to complete the widening project in six phases, lasting until late August. Today, work began on phases two and three of the project.

During this section of work, the south two lanes of Kansas Avenue are closed between Fifth Street and east of the intersection of Third/Fourth Street. This closure includes the south side of the intersections of Third/Fourth Street and Kansas Avenue and Fifth Street and Kansas Avenue. No traffic will be allowed to travel south at these intersections.

During this phase of construction, which is expected to last through mid-June, no left turns will be available in any direction. Access to businesses along this stretch of Kansas Avenue will be right in / right out only. The north lanes will be open with one lane carrying traffic eastbound and one lane carrying traffic westbound.

The widening of Kansas Avenue is being funded jointly by the City of Garden City and the Kansas Department of Transportation. The total project cost is expected to be $1.18 million.
