  5. International Red Panda Day

September 20, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ Wild Asia at Lee Richardson Zoo

Sunday, September 29th the Lee Richardson Zoo will be celebrating International Red Panda Day! We are excited to celebrate the birth of this unique and endangered animal. Stop by the red panda exhibits in Wild Asia from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday to visit Firecracker and join the fun with multiple activities for the kids that will turn them into Red Panda Rangers. Learn about red pandas from the panda keeper, and explore our biofact cart. Red panda populations are declining due to habitat loss and fragmentation. Their diet mainly consists of the tender new shoots of bamboo leaves. Despite the name “panda”, these animals are not closely related to the Giant pandas found in China. Giant pandas are bears while red pandas are more closely related to raccoons.
