The Garden City Electric Utility System is owned and operated by the City of Garden City, in southwest Kansas. The Utilities Division provides safe, reliable and affordable electric service to approximately 12,500 metered homes and businesses, by operating and maintaining reliable electrical generation, transmission and distribution systems. 

This division also constructs, operates and maintains 12 electrical substations, extends temporary and permanent light and power services and installs and maintains the city's LED street lighting system (3400+ throughout the community).

 In 2017, the Garden City Electric Department earned a Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) designation from the American Public Power Association for providing reliable and safe electric service. Garden City is one of more than 220 public power utilities nationwide that hold the RP3 designation.

Warehouse personnel use the MAPCON computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for inventory control of approximately 2,100 parts.  MAPCON is also used for purchasing, work orders, preventative maintenance, and asset management.
