Police Department:
> Animal Control

The animal pound is shared by the Garden City Police Department and the Finney County Sheriff's Department. The Garden City Police Department has two animal control officers who are responsible for animal calls within the city limits. The Sheriff's Department is responsible for all animal calls outside of the city limits in Finney County. Both departments share one pound attendant who is responsible for animals at the pound.

The animal pound is located at 206 Isabel, between the fairgrounds and the zoo on the south side of the street. Office hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. During these hours citizens may bring animals in to be adopted or adopt one for themselves. The animal pound is closed on Sundays and holidays, however, an animal control officer is available seven days a week for emergency calls.

Pound employees work with the Finney County Humane Society to place photographs of animals for adoption in the local newspaper on Wednesdays. A list of the impounded stray animals is published on a daily basis. They also work with the local KSN news to picture Pet of the Week on television. The pound utilizes the newly formed foster care program, which helps to give adoptable animals a little more time to find the perfect home. These programs have helped to increase the number of animals getting adopted.

To adopt an animal from the pound, you must pay adoption, registration, vaccination, and spay or neuter fees before taking the animal home.

If you have any questions you can call the pound at 620-276-1152 or the police department at 620-276-1300. You can email the pound at shelter@garden-city.org.
