Police Department:
> Investigations

The Investigation Division, commanded by Lieutenant Rodney Dozier, is comprised of six detectives, one patrol officer, and two evidence/crime scene technicians.

Currently one detective is assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Drug Task Force.

Two detectives are assigned to the Garden City/Finney County Drug Task Force, a local task force comprised of personnel from the Garden City Police Department and the Finney County Sheriff's Office.

The other four are responsible for investigating felony crimes including homicides, kidnapping, robbery, sex offenses, gang-related crimes, forgery, burglaries, auto thefts, runaways, etc. One of the four detectives acts as a liaison with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF) to focus on crimes involving armed violent criminals. Those investigations are worked jointly through Project Safe Neighborhoods. Detectives are trained in crime scene processing, fingerprinting, electronic surveillance, interviews and interrogations, photography, narcotics identification and testing, search and seizure of warrants and various other technical skills related to criminal investigations.

Evidence/crime scene technicians are responsible for responding to major crime scenes to gather evidence to alleviate detectives and officers from this task so they may focus on the criminal investigation. Evidence technicians are also responsible for the evidence and found property functions.
