GARDEN CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT JOB OPENINGS

The Garden City Police Department is currently accepting applications for the positions of Police Officer, Dispatcher and Police Service Aide. The written P.O.S.T. examination for Police Officer is administered at 9:00 a.m. at the Garden City Police Department on testing days. Oral interview boards are scheduled for the afternoon after the written examination. Polygraph examinations will be scheduled based on the results of the initial testing process. If you are traveling from outside of the Garden City area plan on committing at least two days to the testing process. Testing for Police Officer will be held on the following dates: December 11, 2007, January 8, February 5, March 4, April 15, May 13, June 10, July 8, August 5, September 2, October 14, November 11 and December 9, 2008.

You must meet the following minimum job qualifications to be considered for the position of Police Officer:

• Be 21 years of age.
• Be a citizen of the United States of America.
• Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Have no felony convictions or domestic violence arrests, and be of good moral character.
• Possess a valid driver's license. In addition, must obtain a valid Kansas drivers license within 10 days of employment.
• Have a driving record, which meets the City's insurance requirements.
• Have not used illegal drugs, to include:
• Usage of marijuana within the past 24 months.
• Unlawful possession or use of any controlled substance, the possession or use of which would be a felony offense.
• Unlawful sale or use of prescription drugs.
• Sale of illegal drugs or possession with intent to sell illegal drugs.
• Pass a Police Officer Standardized Test (P.O.S.T.) with a passing score of 70% or better.
• Must pass an oral interview by a board.
• Polygraph examination.
• Background investigation, which includes on-site contacts.
• After a conditional job offer of employment, a personality stability evaluation, physical assessment (medical history) and medical evaluation will be completed.
• Reside in Garden City, Kansas or within a 15-mile radius of the city upon employment.
• LATERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: must be a current certified Police Officer with at least two years of continuous experience as a sworn Police Officer. The starting salary depends on experience.

The Garden City Police Department is accepting applications for full time POLICE DISPATCHERS (COMMUNICATOR) PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES include: Answering telephone and emergency 911 calls, dispatching police, fire and other emergency personnel, and recording pertinent information and computer entry. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS include: A high school diploma or GED, must be 18 years of age, previous experience in communications, secretarial or working with the public preferred, must be a U.S. Citizen and a valid Kansas driver’s license is required. You must be able to type 30 words per minute. SELECTION PROCESS: Includes a typing test, written exam, psychological evaluation, medical exam, oral board interview, background investigation, polygraph & urinalysis/drug screen. SALARY RANGE: $24,334.53 to $35,233.00 annually. Pay incentives are given for college, previous experience and bi-lingual skills.
