North American Plains

Kansas Waters is our newest exhibit, having opened late in the summer of 2005.  Come visit this "dry river bed" and get an up-close look at river otters as they swim and play.  While roaming through the riverbed, take a moment to explore the interactive graphics and learn more about our amazing and fragile water cycle.

The new Swift fox exhibit opened shortly after Kansas Waters debut.  Can you see the fox in all of it's new space in the picture above?

Pronghorns standing in grass

Animals once common in both Western Kansas and North America are featured here. You will find the majestic elk, the massive bison, and the fleet-footed pronghorn.

A recent recipient of the "Roundup: Project Habitat Award", the North American Plains exhibit recreates a small parcel of the waving sea of grass that once blanketed the American Midwest.
