Marie Osterbuhr Aviary
Opened in 1985, the Marie Osterbuhr Aviary features a large flight cage and four indoor displays featuring exoticbirds from around the globe.
Indoor displays feature a variety of birds from around the world, including
Kookaburras, Burrowing Owls, Yellow-billed Cardinals, Turacos, Lovebirds, and
many more.
The open-air flight cage is heavily landscaped with trees, shrubs, and grass surrounding ponds fed by a small waterfall. Birds ranging from the melodious
Bali Mynah to the stunning Mandarin duck move about freely, while visitors
follow a meandering path through the exhibit. Shaded benches along the path provide comfortable resting spots for watching these colorful jewels of the bird world,
and listening to their songs and to the soothing babble of the stream.
The flight cage remains open year round, with winter hardy birds such as ducks, pheasants, doves, and mynahs left on display during the winter months.

Throughout the breeding
season, male
Taveta Golden Weavers keep busy building
nests. With each strand carefully woven
into place, a finished weaver nest is an
impressive piece of architecture. |
The highly endangered Bali mynah lives only on the tiny island of Bali in Indonesia. Extensive captive breeding efforts in zoos have helped with conservation efforts of this beautiful species. |
