The Lee Richardson Zoo is often referred to as an oasis on the plains. Occupying almost half of the 110-acre Finnup Park, the zoo is a favorite gathering spot for nearly 200,000 visitors each year.

The mission of the zoo is to instill appreciation and encourage stewardship of the Earth's natural treasures through the exhibition, conservation and interpretation of wildlife.

The population of animals on display at the zoo provide an example of wildlife found throughout the world.  Over 300 animals representing 110 species are displayed at the zoo, ranging from the elusive snow leopard to the flashy and fancy flamingo.

Visit the zoo and look for signs around animal exhibits.  Dial the number and hear information about the topic on the sign.  For example, one of the choices at the elephants helps you learn how to tell our two African cows apart.  This service is sponsored by Sam's club and is free to all our visitors.

To try it from home now, dial (620)805-3002 and then enter a prompt number from 1-42
