Blizzard Warning Issued for Finney County
Finney County and the City of Garden City want to inform the public of a potentially hazardous snowstorm headed into Finney County on Saturday morning, February 23, 2019.
The storm is projected to arrive in Finney County at approximately 6:00 a.m. and may be gone by Saturday evening. Rains will begin early Saturday morning and transition into heavy snowfall. We are expecting 4-8+ inches of snow, with 30-50 mph sustained winds and possible gusts up to 60 mph, creating blizzard conditions. Roads will be impassible, and visibility will be low. Heavy, wet snow can cause possible damage to buildings, trees, and power lines. There is a high expectation for widespread power outages.
Stay home, stock up, and prepare. We are encouraging everyone to stay home on Saturday. Prepare on Friday by stocking up on the essentials and taking the necessary precautions in case of power outages. Stock up on water, non-perishable food items, medicines, extra blankets, flashlights, batteries, and first aid supplies. See more information at www.weather.gov/ddc/weatherstory.
If you must get out, drive with caution. If you get stranded on the road, call the Garden City Police Department’s non-emergency dispatch number, (620) 276-1300. The warming shelter will be opened at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning at Horace Good Middle School, 1412 N. Main St., Garden City.
In case of emergency and/or medical emergency, call 911.
If you experience a power outage, DO NOT call 911. Please see power outage information for your electric supplier:
