The Garden City Police Department has received notice of a scam that has affected several residents in Garden City.

According to information reported to the Garden City Police Department, a man and woman have gone to multiple houses in Garden City claiming to represent the Water Department. They are asking residents to hire them and allow them to come in and test their water.

The man is described as being a white male and approximately 5' 11". The man is bald or has very short hair and spoke Spanish. The woman is described as being a white female and approximately 5'6". The woman has dark brown or black medium-length hair. Both subjects were wearing gray shirts with writing "Water Services" or "Water Association" on them.

These individuals are asking to scan documents such as social security cards and driver licenses. They were last seen driving a grey Dodge Charger.

Please know, Garden City Water employees will not go into any residence to test the water unless requested by the resident, and they will only do so after a work order has been generated.

If strangers approach you identifying themselves as City Employees, ask to see their City ID badge. If they cannot provide their badge,  or if they are asking you for money, please call the Garden City Police Department at 620-276-1300.
